Our Invitation: Beyond Premium Mediocre

Theologian Frederick Beuchner states,

“Vocation is the place where our deep gladness meets the world’s deep needs.”

The IDEAS Institute wants to create an intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and relational revolution in the St. Louis area around the subject of people’s personal and professional lives.

Typically, nonprofits and community programs, education, therapy, diet/exercise endeavors, decades of vocational work, spiritual exercises/practices, or years in a relationship, develop people within some minimal and limited scale of competence or need acquisition or self-growth. We assume that not only is this basic development not a finished product, but that most certifications and training and programs just sharpen one’s competence and hone efficiency or productivity at these moderate levels. This outcome amounts to what we consider “premium mediocre.” The IDEAS Institute proposes that those who find themselves at these moderate levels of competence, need acquisition or self-growth, have not yet realized their deepest needs or most profound effectualness. This organization exists to take individuals beyond the premium mediocre scale and offer them an opportunity to become more intentional, discerning and large within their own continuously developing lives, thus helping expand and deepen their individual gladness, while meeting and truly speaking to deep community needs. The final result being individuals and a community more fluid and engaged in their own stories.
